More Information
June marks the restart of the Umrah year. The Umrah season pauses for several weeks around Hajj and reopens afterwards, around the start of the Islamic New Year (the month of Muharram). In 2026 the Hajj ends in late May and Umrah is expected to reopen around mid-June, so the first half of June may still be closed; in 2027 the season reopens earlier, in early June. A June Umrah is therefore the very first chance to return to Al-Masjid al-Haram after the Hajj pause — tell us your dates and we will confirm the exact reopening day for your year.

Travelling soon after Hajj has a special character. The millions of Hajj pilgrims have departed, so once Umrah resumes the holy cities are calm and uncrowded, making Tawaf and reaching the Rawdah in Madinah far easier. The Kaaba is also freshly dressed — its kiswah is traditionally renewed at the start of the Islamic year. It is a quiet, reflective time to perform Umrah, with the lowest prices of the summer, suited to pilgrims who can manage the heat.
June overlaps Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar and one of the four sacred months. The Islamic New Year falls around 16 June 2026 and around 6 June 2027, and the Day of Ashura (10 Muharram) — a day of voluntary fasting — follows about ten days later. Performing Umrah as the new Islamic year begins is meaningful for many UK pilgrims, marking a fresh spiritual start. As with all Islamic dates, the overlap shifts each year, so confirm your exact dates with us.
June is high summer in Saudi Arabia and one of the hottest months of the year. Daytime temperatures in Makkah average 40-45°C (104-113°F), and Madinah is similar at 38-43°C (100-109°F). Even nights stay hot at 28-32°C (82-90°F). The midday sun is intense, so perform Tawaf at dawn or late at night, use the air-conditioned levels of the Haram, stay hydrated with Zamzam water, and wear light, loose clothing with an umbrella for shade. June Umrah suits fit, heat-tolerant pilgrims.
Because of the heat and the post-Hajj timing, June has some of the lowest demand of the year, so fares and hotel rates fall well below the Ramadan and winter-holiday peaks, from around £699 per person. It is excellent value for budget-conscious and flexible pilgrims, though the quiet mid-winter weeks of January are usually the single cheapest. For the lowest prices in any month, see our cheap Umrah.
In June's extreme heat, guided Ziyarat — the tours of historical Islamic sites — should be done at dawn or after dark, with plenty of water. Every June package includes guided Ziyarat in both holy cities. Around Makkah you visit Jabal al-Nour (the Cave of Hira), the Cave of Thawr, Jabal Arafat and Mina; the cooler mountain town of Taif is a popular escape from the heat. In Madinah the tour covers Masjid Quba (the first mosque in Islam), Masjid al-Qiblatain, Mount Uhud and Jannat al-Baqi. For the rituals themselves — entering Ihram, performing Tawaf around the Kaaba and Sa'i between Safa and Marwah — an English-speaking guide assists you on arrival at Al-Masjid al-Haram.
