June: When the Umrah Season Reopens After Hajj

June marks the restart of the Umrah year. The Umrah season pauses for several weeks around Hajj and reopens afterwards, around the start of the Islamic New Year (the month of Muharram). In 2026 the Hajj ends in late May and Umrah is expected to reopen around mid-June, so the first half of June may still be closed; in 2027 the season reopens earlier, in early June. A June Umrah is therefore the very first chance to return to Al-Masjid al-Haram after the Hajj pause — tell us your dates and we will confirm the exact reopening day for your year.

Performing Umrah Just After Hajj

Travelling soon after Hajj has a special character. The millions of Hajj pilgrims have departed, so once Umrah resumes the holy cities are calm and uncrowded, making Tawaf and reaching the Rawdah in Madinah far easier. The Kaaba is also freshly dressed — its kiswah is traditionally renewed at the start of the Islamic year. It is a quiet, reflective time to perform Umrah, with the lowest prices of the summer, suited to pilgrims who can manage the heat.

June, Muharram and the Islamic New Year

June overlaps Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar and one of the four sacred months. The Islamic New Year falls around 16 June 2026 and around 6 June 2027, and the Day of Ashura (10 Muharram) — a day of voluntary fasting — follows about ten days later. Performing Umrah as the new Islamic year begins is meaningful for many UK pilgrims, marking a fresh spiritual start. As with all Islamic dates, the overlap shifts each year, so confirm your exact dates with us.

June Heat: The Summer Peak

June is high summer in Saudi Arabia and one of the hottest months of the year. Daytime temperatures in Makkah average 40-45°C (104-113°F), and Madinah is similar at 38-43°C (100-109°F). Even nights stay hot at 28-32°C (82-90°F). The midday sun is intense, so perform Tawaf at dawn or late at night, use the air-conditioned levels of the Haram, stay hydrated with Zamzam water, and wear light, loose clothing with an umbrella for shade. June Umrah suits fit, heat-tolerant pilgrims.

June Value: The Lowest Demand of the Summer

Because of the heat and the post-Hajj timing, June has some of the lowest demand of the year, so fares and hotel rates fall well below the Ramadan and winter-holiday peaks, from around £699 per person. It is excellent value for budget-conscious and flexible pilgrims, though the quiet mid-winter weeks of January are usually the single cheapest. For the lowest prices in any month, see our cheap Umrah.

Best Ziyarat Sites to Visit in June

In June's extreme heat, guided Ziyarat — the tours of historical Islamic sites — should be done at dawn or after dark, with plenty of water. Every June package includes guided Ziyarat in both holy cities. Around Makkah you visit Jabal al-Nour (the Cave of Hira), the Cave of Thawr, Jabal Arafat and Mina; the cooler mountain town of Taif is a popular escape from the heat. In Madinah the tour covers Masjid Quba (the first mosque in Islam), Masjid al-Qiblatain, Mount Uhud and Jannat al-Baqi. For the rituals themselves — entering Ihram, performing Tawaf around the Kaaba and Sa'i between Safa and Marwah — an English-speaking guide assists you on arrival at Al-Masjid al-Haram.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is June a good month for Umrah?
Yes, for the right pilgrim. June reopens the Umrah season after Hajj, with the quietest Haram and lowest summer prices — but it is also one of the hottest months, so it best suits fit, heat-tolerant travellers and those on a budget.
When does Umrah reopen after Hajj?
Umrah resumes after the Hajj pause around the start of the Islamic New Year (Muharram) — about mid-June 2026 and early June 2027. The first part of June 2026 may still be closed, so confirm the reopening date with us before booking.
Can I do Umrah in June 2026?
Yes, once the season reopens — expected around mid-June 2026 after Hajj ends in late May. Early-June 2026 dates may not be available, so we'll confirm the first bookable day for your trip.
Does June fall in Muharram and the Islamic New Year?
Yes. June overlaps Muharram, the first and a sacred month of the Islamic calendar. The Islamic New Year is around 16 June 2026 and 6 June 2027, with the Day of Ashura about ten days later.
How hot is Saudi Arabia in June for Umrah?
Very hot. Makkah averages 40-45°C in the day and Madinah 38-43°C, with warm nights of 28-32°C. Perform Tawaf at dawn or night, stay hydrated and use the Haram's air-conditioned areas.
How do I cope with the heat during a June Umrah?
Wear light, loose clothing, carry water and use an umbrella for shade, schedule Tawaf and outdoor Ziyarat for early morning or after dark, rest at midday, and take a Taif trip to the cooler mountains. Zamzam water is freely available throughout the Haram.
Is June a cheap and quiet month for Umrah?
Yes. The heat and post-Hajj timing give June some of the lowest demand of the year, so prices fall to around £699 per person and crowds are small — though January's mid-winter weeks are usually the single cheapest.
Do I need a Mahram to perform Umrah in June?
No. Since 2022, women can perform Umrah without a Mahram in any month, including June, travelling alone or in a group. See our women's Umrah packages for details.
Which UK airports offer June Umrah departures?
We arrange June departures from London, Manchester and Birmingham, with connecting options from Bradford (Leeds Bradford), Glasgow and other UK airports.
Are June Umrah packages ATOL protected?
