Is Umrah Open in May 2027?
Not on the dates published so far: every Umrah pilgrim must leave Saudi Arabia by 7 April 2027, Hajj falls in mid-May, and no date has been announced yet for Umrah to reopen; our estimate is early June 2027. The 2026 season opened on 31 May 2026, which was 14 Dhul Hijjah; the same Hijri date falls on 20 May in 2027, so Umrah may reopen in late May, but we plan from early June to stay on the safe side until the date is published. We keep this page so that anyone searching for May can see the real dates and plan around them, either for Hajj itself or for the first Umrah weeks after it.

THE HAJJ SEASON
Why Is Umrah Closed in May?
Because Hajj 2027 falls in May: the month of Dhul Hijjah is expected to begin around 7 May, with the Day of Arafah around 15 May and Eid al-Adha around 16 May. Saudi Arabia pauses international Umrah for several weeks either side so that Makkah can receive the Hajj pilgrims, and the Umrah visa and the Saudi ETA do not cover Hajj. All dates depend on the sighting of the moon.

Can You Go to Makkah in May 2027 for Hajj Instead?
Yes, as a Hajj pilgrim: our Hajj 2027 departures leave the UK between about 3 and 10 May and return between 20 and 27 May, from £6,700 per person. Hajj is a different journey with its own visa and its own packages, including the days in Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah; compare them on Hajj 2027 from the UK.

How Hot Is Makkah in May?
Very hot: Makkah averages 42°C by day and 28°C at night in May, and Madinah 40°C and 26°C. The heat stays when Umrah reopens, so plan Tawaf after Isha or before sunrise, keep to air-conditioned walkways where you can, and drink water through the night.

Can You Do Umrah in the May Half-Term 2027?
Only if Umrah has reopened by then: most English schools take their half-term from 31 May to 4 June 2027, close to our estimate for the reopening, so a half-term trip can only be confirmed once Saudi Arabia announces the date. If it opens too late, the summer holidays from late July are the next school break; Scottish schools break up earlier, in late June.

What Should You Book Instead of May?
Book for the weeks after Umrah reopens, or come earlier, before the closure: in Ramadan, after Eid in March or the first days of April. Once Umrah reopens, the year-round prices apply: a week from £500 per adult with four sharing on Economy, fourteen nights from £640, fifteen 3 Star nights from £685, and a full 28-night month on Economy from £920.

THE RULES FOR 2027
What Is the Latest Umrah Policy for 2027?
The main rules for UK pilgrims are seasonal dates, a visa with every booking and a vaccination: the last day to enter before Hajj is 23 March 2027 and the reopening date is not yet announced, every pilgrim travels on a visa that comes with the package, and a meningitis ACWY certificate is required. Women aged 18 and over do not need a Mahram for Umrah: see Umrah packages for sisters. We check every booking against the latest rules and tell you about any change before you fly.

Which Airlines Fly Direct to Jeddah From London and Manchester?
Saudia is the only airline flying direct from the UK, to Jeddah, from Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester, and from Birmingham on selected dates; there is no direct flight to Madinah, and every other UK airport connects through a hub. On Saudia, Zamzam water is carried on top of your baggage allowance; other airlines set their own rules, and we tell you the allowance before you pay. Whether you start in Makkah or Madinah is your choice: Madinah first gives you a rest before Umrah, Makkah first lets you perform it straight away.

£50 per person holds your booking and is part of the price; 50% of the price is due within 24 hours, and the balance 20 days before departure. Every package with flights is protected by ATOL 74904. Either works. Madinah first lets you rest after the flight; Makkah first lets you perform Umrah as soon as you arrive.
