Why Umrah in Ramadan Carries the Reward of Hajj
Ramadan is the most blessed time of the year to perform Umrah. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that an Umrah performed in Ramadan is equal to a Hajj in reward — a virtue found in no other month. Every act of worship is multiplied as pilgrims draw closer to Allah, the Quran was first revealed in this month, and this Ramadan pilgrimage fills the holy cities with an atmosphere of devotion found at no other time, with Taraweeh prayers filling Masjid al-Haram nightly. This unmatched reward is why Ramadan is the single most in-demand Umrah season, and why dates and hotels sell out months in advance.
When Is Ramadan 2026 and 2027?
Ramadan moves about 11 days earlier each year. Ramadan 2026 is expected to run from around 18 February to 19 March 2026, with Eid al-Fitr around 20 March; Ramadan 2027 from around 8 February to 9 March 2027, with Eid around 10 March. The last 10 nights — the spiritual peak — therefore fall in mid-March 2026 and early March 2027. Final dates depend on the moon sighting, so we confirm exact departures once announced. Because so much of Ramadan lands in late winter, the weather in Makkah and Madinah is mild and comfortable for worship.
The Last 10 Nights, Laylat al-Qadr and I'tikaf
The last 10 nights of Ramadan are the most sought-after Umrah dates of the entire year. They contain Laylat al-Qadr — the Night of Decree, better than a thousand months — sought on the odd nights (the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th of Ramadan). Many pilgrims travel specifically for these nights to pray Qiyam, seek Laylat al-Qadr, and perform I'tikaf (secluded worship) in Masjid al-Haram. Last-10-nights packages are the most in-demand and most expensive of the year and sell out the earliest, so book as far ahead as possible.
The Three Ashras: Choosing Your Ramadan Dates
Ramadan divides into three ten-day periods (Ashras), and your choice shapes both the experience and the price:
- First Ashra (days 1-10) — the calmest and most affordable part of Ramadan, ideal for a first Ramadan Umrah.
- Second Ashra (days 11-20) — busier and dearer, a middle option.
- Last Ashra (days 21-30) — Laylat al-Qadr and the spiritual peak; the busiest and most expensive, booking out first.

A Day of Ramadan Umrah: Suhoor, Taraweeh and Iftar at the Haram
A Ramadan Umrah has its own rhythm. You take suhoor (the pre-dawn meal) before Fajr, fast through the day with time for rest and Quran, then break your fast at iftar — free dates and water are distributed across the courtyards of Masjid al-Haram and Al-Masjid an-Nabawi. After Maghrib and Isha, Taraweeh prayers are led by the imams of the Haram, and in the last 10 nights Qiyam continues deep into the night. Health and Fasting Tips for a Ramadan Umrah
Performing Umrah while fasting takes planning. Stay well hydrated between iftar and suhoor, eat balanced meals, and pace your Tawaf and Sa'i — many pilgrims perform Umrah at night after Taraweeh when it is cooler and they are not fasting. Rest during the day, keep your Meningococcal ACWY vaccination certificate to hand, and carry any medication with timings adjusted for the fast.
